Torticollis

Torticollis, also known as wry neck, is a condition in which the head is tilted to one side and the chin is rotated to the opposite side. This can be due to muscle tightness or spasm in the neck, and can be painful and uncomfortable.

There are two types of torticollis: congenital and acquired. Congenital torticollis is present at birth and is typically caused by abnormal positioning of the head in the womb or birth trauma. Acquired torticollis can develop later in life and can be caused by muscle strain or injury, neck problems, infections, or reactions to medication.

Symptoms of torticollis include a stiff or sore neck, limited range of motion, severe muscle spasm, and a tilted or twisted head. Treatment for torticollis typically involves chiropractic care to help realign the affected facet joints and reduce the soft tissue tension in the surrounding areas.

It’s important to ask your doctor if you suspect torticollis, as a prompt diagnosis and treatment can help relieve symptoms and prevent complications.
