PEDIATRIC CONDITIONS

As parents, we seek to offer our children a healthy childhood. Unfortunately, there are many illnesses and conditions which can cause pain or discomfort for our children. I work with many families who seek holistic, alternative care for health and wellness. We look for natural ways to heal our children’s bodies.

Dr. Cori Seyhoon has three children of her own, and she has a special passion for helping children live a strong, vibrant, active life.

Pediatric Chiropractic Care

The purpose of chiropractic care is not the treatment of conditions or diseases; rather, it is the restoration of normal body function. Chiropractors work to reduce stress related interference to the nervous system via gentle spinal adjustments, thereby enhancing overall body function. All systems of the body—muscular, glandular, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, eliminatory, hormonal and immunological—depend on the optimal function of the nervous system.

Parents will often seek chiropractic care for various reasons, some of which include:

  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Spinal wellness care
  • Recurrent ear/nose/throat infections
  • Digestive complaints (such as colic or constipation)
  • Poor appetite
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Trouble latching/nursing
  • Musculoskeltal complaints
  • Headaches
  • Scoliosis
  • Sports related injuries
  • Postural improvement
  • Behavioral problems
  • Post-birth checkup
  • Torticollis
  • Neurosensory disorders

Dr. Seyhoon is trained to look for subluxations on the pediatric spine that may develop into more serious problems down the road. If your child is experiencing any of the above problems, please come in for a spinal evaluation. By doing so, you are paving the way for a healthy adult.

The purpose of chiropractic care, especially for children is not the treatment of conditions or diseases; rather, it is the restoration of normal body function. Asthma

Asthma is characterized by wheezing and spasm of the bronchioles in the lungs, making it difficult to breathe. Clinically, we have correlated muscle spasms and subluxations across the shoulder blades with various lung conditions, including asthma. When there is irritation, or pinching of the nerves that supply the lungs (which exit in the upper thoracic region), the lungs do not receive its signal as efficiently. Hence, they do not function to full capacity.

If you have limited oxygen supply to the body you may have associated symptoms such as poor sleeping habits (or insomnia), anxiety, depression, attention deficits, and muscle spasm. Many chiropractors have had success in treating children for asthma, although it should be noted that the best results are seen in children who start chiropractic treatment before 10 years of age.

ADD/ADHD

ADD/ADHD is one of the most common diagnoses amongst our school children. Thousands of prescriptions each day are written for drugs such as Ritalin, Adderall, Concerta, and Strattera, but did you know that kids who take such drugs experience irritability, insomnia, nausea and over longer periods shorter stature, depression, and psychotic illnesses? In addition, children who take medication from a young age without cognitive behavioral therapy do not learn to control their impulsivity and can self-medicate later in life with dangerous and toxic substances.

Research suggests that children with ADD/ADHD may have undiagnosed food allergies and nutritional imbalances. They may also suffer from subluxations in the upper cervical spine. Our pediatric patients often report having a greater focus and higher grades after receiving regular chiropractic care to correct these subluxations.
